Battle Ground, Washington Real Estate and Community Info.

Located in the southwest corner of Washington state, Battle Ground is a rapidly-growing community of around 17,000 residents. The town's unique name comes, not from a field of conflict, but from the place where an early fort commander negotiated a peaceful end to a confrontation with the native Klickitat tribe. The early European settlers were eager for a battle and mocked the commander's peaceable efforts...and the name stuck.

Today, Battle Ground is known for its scenic surroundings, its annual harvest festival and as a desirable suburban town near Vancouver, Washington and Portland, Oregon.

Shopping and Dining

Although many major retailers are located within a short drive of Battle Ground and there is a mall in nearby Vancouver, the most interesting shopping in town is to be found in the city's independent shopping districts. Among these is Battle Ground Village, a mixed use complex with dozens of eclectic shops and restaurants.

The Pacific Northwest region is known for its diverse array of independently-owned restaurants, many of which make good use of locally-sourced meat, fish and produce. Battle Ground is no exception. Popular eateries in town include Galeotti's for traditional Italian fare with a Pacific Northwest twist; Les Mesitas, a casual Mexican restaurant in the heart of downtown; and Keo Thai, serving southeast Asian cuisine made with local ingredients. Be sure to check out another local favorite, Laurelwood Brewing Company!

Parks and Recreation

One of the advantages to owning Battle Ground Washington real estate is the abundant parks and recreation areas in the region. The Battle Ground Parks and Recreation Department manages 18 city parks as well as a skate park, a bike park and several sports fields. In addition, the city is located near the huge (292,500 acre) Columbia River Gorge National Scenic Area and the many hiking, fishing, camping, rock climbing and other outdoor activities to be found there.
