Ridgefield, Washington Real Estate and Community Info.

The City of Ridgefield, situated in the rolling hills north of the Columbia River in southwest Washington, is best known as an important site in the Lewis and Clark expeditions as well as home to the 5150-acre Ridgefield National Wildlife Refuge. Ridgefield, incorporated in 1909, is still a small town, with a population of under 5000 residents. However, that number has more than doubled over the last decade, and rapid population growth is expected to continue over the next few years. Ridgefield is about 15 miles north of Vancouver, Washington, and 20 miles from Portland, Oregon; as the greater Portland-Vancouver metro area grows, Ridgefield is also expected to expand.

In addition to its role in the Lewis and Clark saga, Ridgefield is the town where U-Haul got its start and is well-regarded for its excellent potato and plum farming. Ridgefield is also home to the Clark Country Fairgrounds and the summer county fair.

Shopping and Dining

The City of Ridgefield offers a collection of small, one-of-a-kind retailers, including antique shops, new age stores and craft shops. Shoppers can choose from such diverse offerings as Birkenstock Northwest, Sweet Peas children’s store, and Ridgefield Gifts among many others. Most of the major, big box retailers are represented in nearby Vancouver and Portland, and Vancouver offers Westfield Mall.

For a relatively small town, Ridgefield has a large number of eateries. Of course, that's to be expected in the food-conscious Pacific Northwest region. Local favorites include range from cozy to hip, including the 15-table Pioneer Street Cafe and El Rancho Viejo, a favorite spot for Mexican fare.

There is also Abrams Park, in the heart of the city, and the 88-acre Paradise Point State Park, located north of the city along Interstate 5.

Ridgefield is known for its annual Heritage Day celebration, held each August, a day to remember the town's past, with pioneer food, dress, dance and music, and BirdFest, held each fall at the nearby Ridgefield National Wildlife Refuge.
