Camas is nestled between Vancouver and Washougal in southwest Washington state, across the Columbia River from Portland, Oregon. The town of around 17,000 residents grew up as a paper mill town in the early 20th century and the Georgia-Pacific plant is still one of the largest employers in Camas. In recent years, the paper manufacturer has been joined by a variety of technology firms, including Sharp Microelectronics and Underwriters Laboratories, bringing an influx of white collar workers to the area. Camas’ proximity to its larger neighbor Vancouver, and to the Portland, Oregon metro area places it within commuting distance of a large employment base.

Shopping and Dining

Historic downtown Camas is filled with interesting boutiques, independently-owned restaurants and a vintage movie theater. The restored storefronts and charming, tree-lined streets make a nice place to stroll even if you simply plan on an afternoon spent window shopping. Outside of downtown, many large national chains are represented within a short drive, everything from Wal-Mart to Home Depot.

Camas hosts an eclectic collection of restaurants. In fact, the town draws diners from all over the Columbia River Gorge region and from Vancouver, Washington nearby. Some of the most popular eateries in Camas include Oliver's, a nationally-recognized restaurant in historic downtown Camas, and Tommy O's, which specializes in the cuisine of the Pacific Northwest.

Parks and Recreation

The City of Camas Parks and Recreation Department manages a dozen green spaces, including the 311-acre Lacamas Park which surrounds Round Lake.

Camas is tied to the other communities of the Columbia River Gorge region by the Lewis and Clark Highway (SR-14). For longer voyages, the town is just 20 minutes away from Portland International Airport in Portland, Oregon.
